Four years sans results, UPSC coaching classes shut

Even after spending about Rs 35 lakh in last four years, not a single candidate seeking guidance in the Chhattisgarh government-funded coaching institute here could qualify in the civil services examinations.

As the centre failed to yield the desired results, the state government had now decided to shut down the institution.

The state government's tribal welfare department started the scheme in 2006 to provide civil services examination coaching to the tribal aspirants. The department engaged some private institutions for coaching the students preparing for Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and State Public Service Commission (SPSC) examinations. The coaching institutions were set up in Raipur and Jagdalpur. On an average, about 150 students in both the centres were enrolled for coaching. Besides the academic expenses, the government paid for their hostel accommodations.

"The department has received the letter from the state government to close down the centres," deputy commissioner with the department of tribal welfare N R Sahu said. He, however, declined to comment more saying that it was not appropriate to speak anything on the government order.
