Govt seeks applications for 3 CCI members

Applications have been sought by the Corporate Affairs Ministry, the administrative ministry for the Competition Commission of India

The Competition Commission, which keeps a watch on unfair trade practices, will have three new members over the next few months as the government has invited applications for the positions.
 
While the post of one member has been lying vacant since June, two members are to retire in March and April next year.
 
The applications have been sought by the Corporate Affairs Ministry, the administrative ministry for the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

Another member H C Gupta, who was Coal Secretary between 2006 and 2009, had stepped down from CCI in June following the controversy over coal allocation scam.
 
A member can hold the office for a period of five years or till reaching the age of 65 years.
 
To become a member, one of the eligibility criteria is that the person should have at least 15 years of professional experience in international trade, economics, business, commerce, law, finance, accountancy, management, industry, public affairs or competition matters, including competition law and policy.
 
"Keeping in view the role and importance of CCI as a regulator, it is desirable that the applications from the persons with high integrity, eminence and reputation with requisite experience are forwarded for consideration," according to the Ministry.
 
Further, candidates who are already in government service, will have to seek retirement from the service if selected as a CCI member.
