The Bharatiya Janata Party yesterday charged Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, his government and their consensus keepers with trying to repeat the Gujarat situation in Rajasthan by preventing Bhairon Singh Shekhawat-led BJP government from proving its majority on the floor of the Assembly.

Sharply reacting to the developments in the state Assembly yesterday, where the oppositioin Congress and three BJP dissidents prevented the Governor from addressing the House on its opening day, party spokesperson Sushma Swaraj said we want to tell the government of the day and its consensus keepers to fight us politically but not to subvert democracy.

Addressing a press conference here, Swaraj said subversion of democracy never paid, that was the lesson of history. Let democracy prevail in Rajasthan, she added. She said it was the first incident of act of indiscipline in the history of Rajasthan. Whatever has happened today shows that the opponents are trying to turn parliamentary democracy into a wrestling field.

0 No doubt they are trying to repeat Gujarat. But we will ensure that right is right and might is not right, Swaraj asserted.

She said the state unit of the BJP had already demonstrated 108 MLAs who were supporting the party. The house has an affective strength of 199.

After losing the game of numbers, the opponents were now trying to resort to a game of blows and crossing all limits in transactiion of business of the House.

She said during the session the Opposition would have a chance to topple the government during the vote on thanks to the Governors address. Let them do so then. Stalling the proceedings was indecent and should be condemned by all, she added.
