Barring cigarettes, the impact of the goods and services tax (GST) does not seem to be much on retail price inflation. 

The GST Council had raised the cess on cigarettes in the very first month of the introduction of the new indirect tax regime in July 2017.  


 
The cess was also raised on luxury cars from the middle of September but the impact was not that much, probably because small and medium cars did not see the hike.
