Haryana registers decadal population growth of 19.9%

Compared to 28.43% in the 1991-2001 period

Haryana has recorded a decadal population growth of 19.90 per cent during 2001-2011 as compared to 28.43 per cent in the previous decade of 1991-2001. The share of Haryana’s population in the country’s total population has increased from 2.06 to 2.09 per cent.

Also, the state recorded a population density of 573 per square km in 2001-2011 as compared to 478 in the decade of 1991-2001. Stating this, Census Operations (Haryana) Director Neerja Sekhar, who released provisional statistics of Census-2011, said as many as 4,208,517 people had been added to the state’s population.

While the total population has increased from 21,144,564 in 2001 to 25,353,081 in 2011, the number of males has increased from 11,363,953 in 2001 to 13,505,130 in 2011. Similarly, the number of females also shot up from 9,780,611 to 11,847,951 in 2011.

All the districts of Haryana have shown decline in growth rate as compared to 1991-2001 decade except Gurgaon. The area of NCR shows more growth than rest of Haryana, especially Gurgaon, Faridabad, Mewat and Palwal. Panchkula and Panipat have also shown higher growth. This time, maximum decrease in growth is in Panchkula from 50.91 per cent to 19.32 per cent.

The literacy rate has increased from 67.91 in 2001 to 76.64 in 2011 with percentage of literate males increasing from 78.49 to 85.38 per cent and that of females from 55.73 to 66.77 in the same period. Highest literacy rate has been reported from Gurgaon district which is 84.44 per cent followed by Panchkula with 83.44 per cent and Faridabad with 83.04 per cent. Lowest level of literacy has been reported from Mewat district which stood at 56.14 per cent.

Maximum female literacy has been recorded in Gurgaon district which is 77.64 per cent and lowest in Mewat district which stood at 37.58 per cent in 2011.
