Identifying India as a very important partner, Japanese Ambassador to the United Nations Ichiro Fujisaki has said that New Delhi has a huge potential.

"India is also a very important partner. I think that's one of the biggest recipients of official development assistance (from Japan)," Fujisaki said in response to a question at the Brookings Institute - a Washington-based think tank.

"I have gone myself and discussed the possibility of large-scale projects as well. We are talking about the plan of transportation between Mumbai and Delhi," he said."India has a huge potential. We think, like China, we want to cooperate with India. And it's the biggest democracy in the world, and we respect that country very much," he said.

The recovery of the Japanese economy is now due to the Chinese economic growth, Fujisaki said.

"We need growth of United States, growth of China, because we are not depending on trade as much as, for example, a country like Germany, which has about 40 per cent of GDP share is trade. Ours is around 10 percent or so. So it's not big," he said.

"However, there are a lot of trade-related areas as well. There's investment going into that country too.  So we hope that there's coexistence between Chinese industries and Japanese industry," the Ambassador said.
