In what could spell more trouble for the B S Yeddyurappa-led government in Karnakata, governor HR Bhardawaj today recommended the imposition of president’s rule. Bhardawaj, on a three-day visit to Delhi, sent a special report to the Centre.

“In context of the recent judgement of the SC, in the matter of disqualification of MLAs on May 13, 2011, and its implications for the developments in the state, a special report has been sent to the Centre,” the governor’s office said.

The recommendation came in the backdrop of the Supreme Court’s judgment quashing the disqualification of 16 MLAs even as 11 rebel BJP MLAs today pledged their “unconditional” support to the Yeddyurappa government.

This is not the first time the CM has recommended the imposition of the President’s rule. In October last year, the governor made such a recommendation after 16 MLAs, eleven from BJP and five independents, submitted him a letter withdrawing support to the government led by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. The Centre had rejected the recommendation.

The MLAs also withdrew their earlier letter. “We withdraw our earlier letters addressed to you (governor) in October 2010, regarding support to the government led by Yeddyurappa. We, once again, confirm our full support to the present government.”
