Trinamool Congress-controlled Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to employ 14,000 unemployed youths in various civic maintenance and repair work under the Urban employment project.
“These youths will be engaged shortly in the upkeep of the parks, garbage cleaning, road repair, drainage maintenance and monitoring quality food sale on roadside stalls, besides assisting the civic staff,” city Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said.
The Mayor said that plans were afoot to create more greenery with the help of NGOs, keeping the city free from flooding during monsoon period by modernising the pumping stations and several other projects.
