The Madras High Court has today extended the deadline for digitisation in Chennai till Friday.Hearing the case, the High Court gave time to the Tamil Nadu government to come up with a final date for the complete switchover from analog signals to digital addressable systems (DAS) in Chennai.
As per the Information and Broadcasting Ministry mandate, the deadline of the switchover in the four metros of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai was October. While the analogue signals were ceased in Delhi and Mumbai, in Chennai the state government moved the Madras High Court asking for an extension in the deadline.
Tamil Nadu government had earlier asked time till December 31, but now it is asking for 18 weeks delay. Meanwhile the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has agreed to extension in Chennai, provided the Tamil Nadu government commits a date to implement.
