The government is spending Rs 50 crore for the six-week mega campaign for conservation of oil. The campaign would include simple steps like proper driving habits, better maintenance of vehicles, use of carpooling for going to offices and schools, switching off engines at traffic lights, appropriate upkeep of heavy duty vehicles and driver training in order to minimize wastages.
The campaign would involve contributions from six oil PSUs and the PCRA. The ministry is looking to training 20,000 drivers from STUs in the next six months and 30,000 truck drivers in next two months.
“We will be undertaking a large-scale Media Campaign including print, television, radio, cinema, websites, etc. We will also be conducting LPG Clinics, Kisan Melas, driver training programmes, Nukkad Nataks, Marathons, checking of vehicles at ROs etc. to drive home the message of ‘fuel conservation’. PCRA will also be using SMS facility to give fuel saving tips direct to the consumers,” Moily had said while unveiling the campaign.
Moreover, the ministry along with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) would come out with benchmarking norms for LPG stoves, and diesel pumps in October.
