Savita Khant, the Congress candidate who won from Morva Hadaf Assembly seat in Panchmahal district on Thursday, died after suffering brain haemorrhage at a private hospital in Vadodara on Friday.

Khant, 52, had fell down from a chair while she was at the counting center yesterday. She was immediately rushed to a hospital in Godhra and later shifted to a private hospital in Vadodara.

She passed away today, party workers said. Khant, a resident of Viramiya village, had defeated BJP's Bijalbhai Damor by a margin of 11,289 votes in the newly-formed constituency. Senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil condoled her death and said that she was an efficient worker of the party. With Khant's death, Congress's strength in the 182-member Assembly has been reduced to 60.
