The CBI Special Court hearing 2G scam cases has reserved its judgment on Kanimozhi’s bail plea till May 14. The Tamil Nadu Assembly election results are expected on May 13.

CBI’s prosecutor U U Lalit told the court today that Kanimozhi, the daughter of DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, was an active brain behind the money transfer to Kalaignar TV in the 2G spectrum case, accusing her of complicity in the transaction. He also said, Kanimozhi was regularly in touch with former telecom minister A Raja, who’s in judicial custody now.

“The controlling mind of Kalaignar TV is Sharad Kumar, but behind the scene, the person controlling everything in Kalaignar TV is this lady,” said Lalit. Kanimozhi, along with Sharad Kumar, MD, Kalaignar TV, were present at the hearing.

Kanimozhi’s counsel Ram Jethmalani had earlier argued that the conspiracy of transferring Rs 200 crore to Kalaignar TV was masterminded by Raja and Shahid Balwa of DB Realty. He also said, Kanimozhi held a minority stake of 20 per cent in Kalaignar TV and she had resigned from the post of director of the company before the transaction took place. “She is a woman, a mother and an MP with good conduct, which is why the court should grant her bail,” Jethmalani had argued.
