Revenue arrears of the Odisha government worth Rs 5,905.89 crore are locked up in different courts (as on March 31, 2012).
This was informed by minister (finance & public enterprises) Prasanna Acharya in a written reply in the state assembly.
While cases related to revenue arrears worth Rs 1,264.36 crore are pending in the Supreme Court, arrear cases of Rs 3,655.40 crore and and Rs 986.13 crore are to be decided by the Odisha High Court and other tribunals respectively.
The cases of revenue arrears are in different categories- state sales tax (Rs 509.91 crore), value added tax (Rs 332.74 crore), Central sales tax (Rs 2,160.3 crore), entry tax (Rs 217.94 crore), entertainment tax (Rs 23 lakh), forest development tax (Rs 5.29 crore), industrial water rate (Rs 1,493.23 crore), electricity duty (Rs 1,184.57 crore) and mining royalty (Rs 1.61 crore).
