At a session on ‘Beyond Credit: Balancing the Portfolios of the Poor’, most of the questions from the floor were directed at SKS Microfinance Chairman Vikram Akula. From industry to international media, everyone had questions for Akula on ethical lending by microfinance institutions. The moderator of the discussion tried to protect Akula by telling people to ask questions on the theme of the session, but that did not help much. Later, when the session concluded, reporters made a beeline for the dais to catch Akula on the sidelines, but he left the venue immediately, escorted by his security personnel.
