Trinamool Congress ministers led by Cabinet minister Mukul Roy who also holds the Railway portfolio will be submitting their resignations to the Prime Minister at 3pm today. The TMC thereafter has sought an appointment with the President Pranab Mukherjee to formally give their letter for withdrawal of support as a UPA ally. The TMC has one cabinet minister and five MoS in the government.

The alliance between the two reached break point after the UPA refused to give into Mamata Banerjee’s demands for a roll back on diesel prices and the economic reforms it had unleashed last Friday.

It is understood that as soon as the TMC ministers tender in their resignations at the Centre, Congress ministers in the Mamata Banerjee cabinet in West Bengal will also quit from the TMC led coalition there. Thereby bringing to an end a tumultuous relationship between the two alliance partners TMC and the Congress both at the Centre and in the state.

The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is also likely to address to the nation today post the TMC pullout explaining the reasons why the economic reforms had become inevitable for the Indian economy.

The Congress core Committee chaired by Congress President Sonia Gandhi which also includes the PM is likely to also meet this evening, to discuss the current political upheavals.

The Congress meanwhile has steadfastly maintained that the government is stable and is in no immediate danger.
