Trinamool Congress leader and Union Minister Mukul Roy today demanded privilege action against Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley for allegedly misleading Rajya Sabha on the Lalgarh rally addressed by Mamata Banerjee recently.
In a notice to Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan, he said Jaitley's statement in the House on August 10 was "untrue and suffers from deliberate attempt to mislead the House... With a sinister design to malign the image of Banerjee."
Roy, a Rajya Sabha member, said such an action amounts to breach of privilege and Jaitley "therefore be admonished by the House."
He quoted Jaitley as having said that the rally was supported by the People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) - a front of CPI(Maoist-Leninist).
Jaitley, according to Roy, had referred to Banerjee as having termed Maoist leader Azad's killing as "khoon (murder)" and not an encounter.
The Trinamool Congress MP, who is also Minister of State for Shipping, said the rally was not organised by any political organisation but by a group of activists known as Santrash Birodhi Manch.
According to Rajya Sabha secretariat sources, the letter was under examination.
