Want to know why, how and when can you get yourself a Unique Identification Number?

Log on to www.Uidai.Gov.In, the new website of the recently formed Unique Identification Authority of India headed by Infosys founder Nandan Nilekani, and get answers for almost all your queries.

UIDAI officials said the clutter-free and information-loaded website was launched last week.

The website, officials said would work as an interface between the public and the office, with information on all developments being put up on the site on a regular basis, including Committee reports and all important decisions taken.

The website, which comes with numerous subtitles, also has a section 'Working for the UIDAI', which promises to intimate on opening within the organisation, which plans to roll out the first 16-digit UID number between August 2010 to February 2011.

"At present, the Authority is in the process of putting a team in place. We will intimate the public on openings as they are available. This website in due course will have the possible opportunities that people would have to contribute to the UIDAI," the website read.

UIDAI, which is currently working from the Planning Commission office here, will move into its new office in Connaught Place area soon.
