UP presents supplementary Budget of Rs 5,861 cr

The Akhilesh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government on Monday presented a supplementary Budget of Rs 5,861 crore for the current financial year in the state Assembly here.

This was the first supplementary grant sought by the Samajwadi Party government after the 2012-13 state annual Budget of Rs 2,00,000 crore, which was presented in the Assembly on June 1.

Monday’s supplementary budget has revenue and capital account components of Rs 3,559 crore and Rs 2,302 crore, respectively, spread across both planned and non-planned heads.

Earlier, Opposition members created a din in the house over poor law and order situation, riots and issues related to farmers. They assembled in the well of the House, shouting slogans and carrying placards denouncing the Akhilesh government.

Later, the Assembly Speaker, Mata Prasad Pandey, adjourned the House until 1220 hrs.

Yadav, who also holds the finance portfolio, tabled the supplementary Budget during the din in the house.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted a memorandum to the Speaker demanding extension of the Assembly session beyond November 30. The party has demanded sugarcane price of Rs 400/quintal and strict action in cases of communal riots.

An amount of Rs 1,676 crore has been proposed to be adjusted under various heads, thus leaving effective supplementary demands of about Rs 4,185 crore.

Besides, the supplementary demands include central grants of Rs 416 crore under various schemes. This further leaves the net supplementary demand of the UP government at Rs 3,769 crore.

In the 2012-13 UP Budget presented in June, the annual financial statement had projected a total receipts of Rs 1,94,327 crore during 2012-13, of which Rs 1,58,847 crore and Rs 35,479 crore pertain to revenue and capital receipts respectively.
