Cane Development and Sugar Industry Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui today directed cane department officials to chalk out a strategy for the forthcoming crushing season.

During a review meeting, the minister said that deputy cane commissioners should ensure that all sugar mills become operational by the start of the crushing season and monitor supply of cane to these units.

Siddiqui said that with the increase in area under cane cultivation, production was likely to increase accordingly.

He said that payment of a cane commission of Rs 184.34 crore in the previous crushing season was due from some sugar mills. He said a recovery certificate should be issued to units from which the cane commission was pending.
