In an era of rapid urbanisation, the government on Friday increased allocation for Urban Development Ministry by 75 per cent.
The plan allocation of the ministry has been increased to Rs 5,306.50 crore in 2010-11 from Rs 2,975.75 crore in the last fiscal.
As the Commonwealth Games are to be held in Delhi later this year, the government allocated Rs 176.90 crore for the purpose compared to Rs 125 crore last year.
Metro projects across the country have also received priority from the government with funds for the mass rapid transport system in Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai being increased significantly.
For the National Capital Region, the allocation has been increased almost five times — from Rs 73.59 crore to Rs 384.88 crore in the Budget.
