The West Bengal government on Tuesday received a revised proposal for development of Nayachar Island, off Haldia, in East Midnapore district in West Bengal, as an industrial hub, from NRI businessman Prasoon Mukherjee.

Mukherjee, who met Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee here, submitted a proposal for setting up a 2,000-MW thermal power plant, an industrial park and an eco-tourism project, involving a total investment of Rs 26,000 crore, on Nayachar Island.

While the power plant would entail an investment of Rs 12,000 crore, the industrial park and eco-tourism project would require Rs 12,000 crore and Rs 2,000 crore, respectively.

Mukherjee told reporters that 50 per cent of coal required for the power plant would be imported from Indonesia, while the balance would be sourced domestically. The new government under Mamata Banerjee, after coming to power in May, scrapped the previous Left Front government's proposal of setting up a chemical hub at Nayachar.

Mukherjee was also involved in the earlier project proposal.Funding of the project would be done in a 70:30 debt-equity ratio, he said.
