In an open challenge to the central and state governments, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has said it would be successful in hoisting the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar tomorrow.
Senior BJP members said the party wants to see the tricolour flying high across the length and breadth of the country and in doing so, is ready to brave the security crackdown on party workers.
The crackdown by both the state and central governments have pleased the BJP brass, who believe the party has now got more ammunition to fight the Congress-led UPA government.
Although the BJP has so far maintained that the Ekta Yatra will be peaceful and its youth wing members will not disrupt law and order in the state, central leaders have said they will continue to fight for their cause.
“Our leader Shyama Prasad Mukherjee had sacrificed his life for the Kashmir issue, so it is extremely close to us ideologically and we will not compromise on this. It’s not politics for us but a question of basic ideology of the party,” said a BJP leader.
The BJP has also warned the Centre that by stopping the Ekta Yatra, the Union government was making a blunder and the people of the country will not spare them.
