The World Bank will provide a $360 million loan for restructuring of water sector projects in Uttar Pradesh.
Nilaya Mitash, a joint secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs in the union finance ministry on behalf of the Government of India, and Onno Ruhl, country director, World Bank, on behalf of the bank, signed an agreement for the loan here Thursday.
"Objective of the project is to support the state government on capacity building of Water Users Association, rehabilitation and modernisation of irrigation and drainage systems, rehabilitation of dams, development of basin river planning strategies, groundwater studies, knowledge base and flood management systems," the finance ministry said in a statement Friday.
The project will have to be completed by Oct 31, 2020.
