As evidence to the upswing in campus hiring this year, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has this year seen a 50.14 per cent rise in the number of offers made till the end of second day over the same period last year.
Offers made till the end of the second day of the placement that began on December 1, IIT Guwahati saw 530 offers, compared to 353 offers last year for the first two days of the process.
Moreover, the premier institute also saw a jump in international offers made in the first two days from a total of four offers last year to 28 this year.
IIT Guwahati also witnessed a significant jump in salary packages this year. As against the highest international offer of Rs 36 lakhs last year, IIT Guwahati has so far seen the highest offer of Rs 2.05 crore. Made by Uber, the highest international offer was secured by post graduate students of IIT Guwahati.
Similarly, the highest domestic package also rose by 70 per cent from Rs 70 lakhs last year to Rs 1.2 crore this year.
The total number of pre-placement offers (PPOs) too went up by 34.5 per cent from 133 in 2020 to 179 this year.
Commenting on the process, the institute stated that this year the entire placement process in IIT Guwahati is happening in completely virtual mode.
"Last year, only the coordinating committee members were physically present on the campus while the volunteers were connected virtually. This year, the entire coordinating committee and a majority of the volunteers are present on the campus to coordinate the entire placement process. The students (either on-campus or off-campus) participating in the campus placement in virtual mode," it further stated.
