The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)on Monday declared the results of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2018 on its official website — jeemain.nic.in, while the registration for JEE Advanced 2018 ended on Tuesday. IIT Kanpur, the official authority to conduct the JEE Advanced 2018, will release the Admit Card and Hall Ticket of the candidates who have successfully registered for the exam on May 14, 2018 on jeeadv.ac.in.

According to Hindustan Times, surprisingly, more than 32 per cent of the JEE  candidates who were shortlisted for the final exam has decided to skip the test this year. While 2.31 lakhs JEE-Main candidates were eligible for the JEE Advanced exam, only 1.60 lakhs applicants registered for the test.

"The number of students opting for JEE Advanced has fallen over the years," the senior professor from IIT-Bombay said to Hindustan Times.

In 2017, 23 per cent of eligible students opted out of JEE-Advanced, while 21 per cent students skipped the same in 2016.

JEE Advanced 2018 exam pattern

The JEE Advanced 2018 examination will be conducted only in the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode
Every candidate will be assigned a computer terminal at the examination centre
The exam will consist of two compulsory question papers - Paper 1 (9 am to 12 pm) and Paper 2 (2 pm to 5 pm), which will be of three hours duration each

Candidates will be eligible for admission to the Bachelor's, Integrated Master's and Dual Degree programmes, based on their performance in IIT JEE Advanced 2018.

Among those who have cleared the exam, 1,80, 331 are boys and 50,693 girls. Besides seeking admission in various engineering colleges across India, the qualified candidates are also eligible to appear for JEE-Advanced which is an entrance test for IITs and Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad.

"The JEE question papers are prepared in original by over 100 item writers. These item writers are subject experts. They prepare over 1,500 items over a period of two months during the year of the exam.

"All these questions are prepared by the item writers in original and they are handwritten. After that, 90 questions are drawn randomly and 8-9 sets are created. Anyone set is randomly picked for use in JEE," a senior board official explained.
