Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today described the Lok Sabha elections as the "semi-final" before the Assembly elections and urged people to vote for Congress to accelerate development works.

He said there has been development and good governance under Congress regime in Haryana.

"The forthcoming Lok Sabha polls are like semi-finals before the Assembly election. The LS polls will be validate the development strides of the state. The need of the hour is to maintain this rapid pace of development by supporting Congress in the Lok Sabha election," he said during his whirlwind election campaign in the rural areas of Rohtak Lok Sabha constituency.

Hooda's son and Rohtak MP Deepinder Singh Hooda is seeking re-election from Rohtak as Congress candidate for third time.

During his election campaign, Hooda castigated opposition parties for their "divisive politics".

Lashing out at the BJP-HJC alliance and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), the chief minister said these parties neither have any policy nor the intention to serve people.

The Chief Minister, his wife Asha, and Deepinder's wife Shweta and other Congress leaders have been campaigning for the MP, who is down with a back ailment.

While HJC-BJP combine is contesting all the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state jointly, INLD is fighting the upcoming polls independently. AAP and BSP have also put up their candidates.

In 2009, Congress had won nine out of ten Lok Sabha seats, while HJC chief Kuldeep Bishnoi was elected as MP from Hisar in a bypoll three years back.

Assembly elections in Haryana are due in September-October this year.
