Addressing an election rally at Fatehabad, about 25 km from Agra in western UP, Akhilesh said, "Netaji (Mulayam) has a great deal of experience. He has been chief minister of the state and defence minister of the country and is the fittest person to be prime minister."
Akhilesh claimed his party was ahead after the first two phases of polling in the state and would maintain the lead.
Earlier, addressing a rally, with actor-turned- party MP Jaya Bachchan, in Mainpuri from where the senior Yadav is contesting. Akhilesh said, "The Third Front will form the government at the Centre and SP will be the largest party in it... Soon more industries will be set up in Mainpuri."
The UP Chief Minister also charged Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati with fooling people by saying no development work was done during the SP regime in the state. Within two years of coming to power, the SP government had done tremendous development work, which no other government of any state could do within such a short period, he claimed in Mainpuri. He also attacked BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and said there was no Modi wave in the state.
A few days ago, the SP supremo had said he would stake claim for the prime minister's post. He had told PTI the SP would emerge as the largest party in the Third Front government and he would stake his claim.
But, it would be decided by all partners of the front, he had said.
