DMK slaps notice on Vaiko for alleging it offered money to Vijayakanth

Vaiko said DMK offered Rs 500 crore and 80 seats to DMDK leader Vijayakanth to join alliance

DMK chief M Karunanidhi has sent a legal notice to MDMK general secretary Vaiko for alleging his party members has offered money to actor turned poltician DMDK’s Vijayakanth to form an alliance with DMK for the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections.

A legal notice, on behalf of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s Karunanidhi said that he was "shocked to hear the false and defamatory statement made by you at the Madurai airport before a large group of press and media today accusing him of offering money to Vijayakanth, leader of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) for joining as an alliance party along with the DMK party."

According to reports, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary has told televison journalists and other media that DMK has offered around Rs 500 crore and 80 seats to Vijayakanth, while BJP also made some offers to the latter.

Vaiko gave the statement to media despite knowing very well its false, with sole intention to damage the reputation of Karunanidhi and defame him in the eye of Tamil Nadu public, the DMK party men and supporters, the legal notice said.

This allegation has been denied and controverted same day by Premalatha Vijayakanth, a prominent leader of the DMDK party, said the notice.

Premalatha Vijayakanth had stated media on Friday that there was no talk or discussion held between DMK and DMDK parties regarding alliance as stated by Vaiko, it added.

"Your conduct of not immediately withdrawing your defamatory statement and regretting to have made a false statement of accusation against M Karunanidhi shows that your intention is only to defame and bring disrepute to our client with an intention to politically damage him at this crucial time, when general elections in the Tamil Nadu Assembly have been announced," added the notice.

It maintained that if Vaiko does not withdraw his false accusation and express regret for making such false and defamatory statement against the DMK leader within seven days from today, he will be constrained to initiate appropriate civil and criminal actions against Vaiko for the defamation.

As per earlier reports, DMK and BJP has been wooing DMDK to join an alliance in the upcoming elections, to contest against the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). However, DMDK, which first announced that it is going to contest alone, later entered in the People's Welfare Front (PWF) alliance in which Vaiko's MDMK, Viduthalai Chiruthai Katchi (VCK), and the two communist parties, in which Vijayakanth is assured Chief Minister position if the alliance comes to power.
