Those who fail to create history try to distort it, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Thursday as he stressed on the need for accepting history as it is and not allowing it to be distorted by any ideology.

 

Speaking at the launch of the first ever dictionary on martyrs of the Indian freedom struggle, Modi, whose party has often been accused by the Opposition of distorting history, said only if history is accepted as it is, will it inspire generations.

 

 

"There are efforts to weigh history on the scale of ideology and these efforts many a time lead to distortion of history. I believe history should be accepted as history... It should not be bound by your ideology or mine and we should not make changes in it... The debate will go on..." he said.

Shah accuses C'garh govt of duping farmers over loan waiver

BJP president Amit Shah Thursday accused the Bhupesh Baghel government in Chhattisgarh of duping farmers by only waiving their short-term loans, as against the Congress's promise of writing off entire farm loan.

 

Shah also slammed the government over its decision to withdrawn the general consent accorded to the CBI to probe cases in the state, and also for pulling out of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

 

He was addressing a convention of party workers here.

 

"The Congress has duped the farmers. The party had promised to waive their entire farm loan, but it wrote off only short-term loans and that too not completely," Shah said.

The convention -- 'Mera Booth, Mera Gaurav' (my booth, my pride) -- will be held at Indira Gandhi Stadium on March 11, working president of Delhi Congress Haroon Yusuf said Thursday.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi will kickstart the campaign of the DMK-led alliance for the coming Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu by addressing a rally in Kanyakumari on March 13.

 

Besides Rahul Gandhi, DMK president M K Stalin, MDMK chief Vaiko and Left party leaders would participate in the meeting, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K S Alagiri told reporters here Thursday.

Cong declares 1st list of 15 candidates for LS polls

The Congress Thursday released its first list of 15 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, fielding UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi from Raebareli and party president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi.

 

The list, finalised at a meeting of the party's central election committee chaired by Rahul Gandhi, named 11 candidates from Uttar Pradesh and four from Gujarat.

Don't bat from behind Delhi unit: AAP to Rahul Gandhi on alliance

Amid a flip-flop over alliance with the Congress to take on the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls, the AAP Thursday said Rahul Gandhi should take a decision about the seat-sharing with it considering the national situation, instead of "batting from behind" his party's Delhi unit.

 

"The AAP took an ideological decision for alliance, keeping in view the need to save the democracy and to strengthen the voice of Delhi people in the Lok Sabha, although objections were raised within the party," AAP's Delhi convener Gopal Rai said.

 

The comments come after Gandhi this morning said that the Congress' state unit do not want an alliance with the AAP.

 

"I feel Rahul Gandhi is either not comprehending the national situation or he is unable to make his party organisation understand it. Instead of batting from behind his state unit, Rahul should take a decision (on alliance)," Rai said.
