Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor K C Chakrabarty said on October 5 that new banks would take 24 months to be operational after getting licences. But a look at some of the key steps to be taken after securing bank licences shows the process should not take more than a year. YES Bank, which got the licence in 2003-2004, had taken about six months to start operations
