Encouraged by the growing fan following for its tweets on the micro-blogging site Twitter, the National Stock Exchange has now started twittering for Junior Nifty index as well as for the currency derivatives and interest rate futures.

Till recently, the 'twitterati club' of NSE was limited to posting live quotes only of its benchmark index Nifty. NSE joined this club last month, becoming the first bourse in the country to have a presence on Twitter--which has become a favoured short-messaging social networking website and can be accessed through mobile phone and internet.

Outside India, exchanges and indices having established their presence on Twitter including Nasdaq of the US and London Stock Exchange's FTSE. On Twitter, NSE posts quotes of its indices-including the current level as also the highs and lows, every 5 minutes during the market hours.

In short span, Nifty has registered over 3,500 followers for its 'tweet' messages, which are capped at a maximum of 140 characters per post. So far, about 1,292 tweets have been posted on the exchange's page on the Twitter.

The number of followers, till today, for the NSE's Junior Nifty, currency derivatives and interest rate futures on Twitter is 34, 54 and 18 respectively. With Twitter, investors can reach the NSE with their mobiles and need not to log onto internet through computers.

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables a user to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters.

A user can send and receive tweets through the Twitter website or short message service (SMS) on mobile phone.
