HDFC Bank will set up an integrated operations hub in the newly constructed commercial area called Ecospace, built by Ambuja Realty at New Town or Rajarhaat near Kolkata.

The bank will be the anchor office space at the building and hire 300 employees for operations.

It leased in 30,000 square feet of space at the building.

The bank has entered into right of first refusal for leasing in another 60,000 square feet space in the building for further expansion.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of Ecosystem, Mahdusudan Hedge, senior vice president and eastern region head of HDFC Bank said it had similar facilities in Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai.

The facility would help centralize back office operations in one place.

Ambuja had roped in companies like Acclaris, Thyssen and Emagination to the building, said Harsh Neotia, chairman of Ambuja Realty Development Ltd.

Till now about 25 per cent of the space had been sold in the facility, which had total built-up area of 2,30,000 square feet.

Spread over 10 acres, the complex was estimated to cost Rs 290 crore, consisting of four bindings, the first of which would be up for possession by March 2009.

The second building would be ready for sale by June and construction of the other two would be over in 2010.

The complex had parking space for 1,300 cars and was part of a bigger development where real estate firm RMZ Corp would develop another 10 acre office space adjacent to the Ambuja complex. The two developments shared the same name and boundary wall.
