A high level panel headed by RBI Deputy Governor Usha Thorat is interviewing around 50 general managers to select 12-15 executive directors (EDs) at various public sector banks, official sources said today.
The panel is expected to shortlist 12-15 candidates for the post of EDs of various nationalised banks, sources said.
About 28 candidates were interviewed today and remaining 22 General Managers would face the panel tomorrow, sources added.
Besides Thorat, the interview panel comprise Finance Secretary Ashok Chawala, who is also Secretary Financial Services, and former Chairman and Managing Director of Oriental Bank of Commerce, K N Prithviraj.
As many as 5 executive directors are retiring during 2009 and one or two EDs are likely to be promoted to the post of Chairman and Managing Director this year, sources added.
Besides, 6 EDs are slated to retire during the next year.
During this year, EDs of Indian Bank, Allahabad Bank, Bank of Baroda, UCO Bank and Indian Overseas Bank are going to superannuate.
