Sri Lankan Refugees

As per the information received from the State Government of Tamil Nadu and Odisha, there are 1,02,004 Sri Lankan refugees staying in the country as on 1.12.2014. Out of this, 64,931 refugees are staying in 109 camps in Tamil Nadu and one camp in Odisha. Remaining 37,073 refugees are staying outside the camps after getting themselves registered in the nearest police station. As regard the initiative taken by the Government for rehabilitation of the said refugees in their own motherland, the issue of voluntary repatriation of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in India was raised by the External Affairs Minister of the Government of India with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka during his visit to India from 17-19 January, 2015.
