India's competition watchdog has reportedly slapped a hefty fine on Google for its non-compliance in a two-year-old anti-trust probe that focused on the search giant's online search practices.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed a fine of 166,000 dollars upon Google's failure to comply with the directions given by the Director General (DG) seeking information and documents.
According to Tech Crunch, Google has been facing the anti-trust heat in India since 2012, based on complaints from the advocacy group, CUTS International and a local matrimony website.
The case surrounds the search giant's questionable online search algorithm and whether Google has abused its dominant position in the business of Internet search and advertising.
Meanwhile, a Google India spokesperson said that the company was disappointed with the development, adding that the company would continue to cooperate fully with the CCI's extensive and ongoing investigation.
