Multinational Computer Technology Corporation Dell is exploring moves into wearable computing, after devices such as Google Glass and digital watches enhanced the trend further.

According to Mashable, Dell's business fell down 9% in the first quarter and sinking PC sales have been associated with the rise of smartphones, tablets and wearable computing, which has a lot of growth opportunities.

Dell's global vice president of personal computing, Sam Burd said that he was expecting devices and form factors to continue to change in the next five years but there still would be a need for 'static' computing on desktops, along with a real need for mobile devices, adding that the company was holding discussions to launch lots of connected devices including wearable ones.

The report said that Google had started shipping its Glass headsets to several thousand explorers in April and that its Pebble smart watch was going to hit retail this month, with rumours of a smart watch from Apple also emerging on the front.

Dell is a company that is trying to go private and wearable computing would present a more profitable alternative, the report added.
