One dead, several hurt in Texas shootings

Police talk of "separate shootings in the same area", but are silent on number of gunmen, or spot from where attacks were launched

At least one person died and an unspecified number were injured in a shooting incident in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, according to emergency services in that city. The dead person was a woman.

According to one report, the police claimed that there were "separate shootings in the same area". However, they were not able to confirm the number of gunmen involved or the exact spot from where the attacks were launched.

The city's Police Department said on its Facebook and Twitter accounts that there was an active shooting incident downtown just before 3 am. About a half-hour later police said the scenes of the shootings were secure, even as they warned people to stay away from downtown.
