Lamborghini, one of the few super sports car manufacturing companies in the world, on Monday launched the Huracan LP610-4 in India at Rs 3.43 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The luxury car sports a 5.2 litre engine producing 610hp at the peak and has a top speed of more than 325km/h. The car makes its India debut less than six months after Lamborghini showcased it at the Geneva Motor Show.

  • It can do 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and has a 7-speed dual clutch transmission
  • The chassis is made from carbon fiber and aluminium. It has four wheel drive with hydraulic multi-plate clutch and comes with carbon ceramic brakes as standard
  • The Huracan, which will sell alongside its more expensive sibling Aventador, will compete with models from Ferrari, Aston Martin, Audi R8, Porsche 911, Bentley and McLaren

The Volkswagen-controlled Italian company, which is known for its high-power, stylish and expensive sports cars, that could be compared only with Ferrari’s, says it is unaffected by the so-called subdued buyer sentiment in India.

Sebastien Henry, head of Southeast Asia and Pacific, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A said, “We have seen the demand for the Huracan from India even before it was unveiled here. We had orders from firm customers even before they drove it.”

The Italian company, which recently set up a national sales company, already has 10 confirmed orders from India for the Huracan. Last year it clocked 20 units in sales improving from 17 units sold in 2012. The company is confident of improving sales this year even as its factory in Italy is ramping up production.

Lamborghini’s confidence is fuelled by the huge presence of wealthy corporate individuals having sprawling business empires. According to Wealth-X and UBS Billionaire Census 2014 India with its 100 billionaires ranked sixth in the top 10 league and is home to more billionaires than France, Switzerland and Hong Kong.

“Buyers of such luxury cars do not get impacted by economic slowdowns. Their buying decisions are not solely based on the financial health of the economy. Many times it so happens that these exotic purchases are bought impulsively”, said a Lamborghini dealer.

India is one amongst the few countries which will boast of having three Lamborghini dealerships. In addition to Delhi and Mumbai, the third dealership is coming up in Bangalore later this year.
