The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has so far raised around Rs 30 crore through alumni batches as well as corporate groups for conservation and restoration work of its heritage campus including the Louis Kahn Plaza (LKP).

According to Ashish Nanda, director of IIM Ahmedabad, the conservation and restoration work has seen contributions pouring in from alumni batches as well as corporate groups even as more are expected to come in near future. The estimated cost of the conservation and restoration of campus buildings including library, faculty residential quarters, student dormitories and classrooms tends to be around Rs 130 crore.

"The strong commitment of IIM-A alumni to the Institute will enable us to pursue excellence in teaching, research, and infrastructure and educate future generations of leaders," said Ashish Nanda, Director IIM-A.

The heritage campus restoration work has been taken up by architects Somaya and Kalappa Consultants Pvt Ltd.

Government of India has also recognised such contributions towards the conservation and restoration of IIM-A's iconic Louis Kahn Campus buildings as being covered within the ambit of CSR in the Companies Act 2013 under 'protection of national heritage, art and culture, including restoration of sights of historical importance as well as promoting education'.

Among the recent contributions, an individual alumnus has made a funding support of Rs 3.5 crore for Dorm D1, and Rs 2.5 crore by another alumnus for classroom CR-3. Last December, the Silver Jubilee Reunion batch of 1992 supported Rs 2.5 crore for classroom CR4 while conservation and upgradation of Tower Lawn opposite the LKP was funded by Rs 1 crore by the 1995 batch.

Meanwhile, IIM-A has been reaching out to its alumni and corporates alike for more of such funding towards the conservation and restoration of dorms, classrooms, and other infrastructure.
