In a bid to help all the new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in finding common grounds of functioning and exchange ideas over development of campuses and various activities, IIT Gandhinagar (IIT-Gn) conducted a two-day 'New IIT Gymkhana Summit' on October 23 and 24, 2010.

Sudhir Jain, director of IIT Gandhinagar said, "The new IITs have some advantages over their older counterparts. For instance, we are a small group and hence, it is much easier for us to bring about changes in the system for the faster growth of the institute. Also, being a new IIT, we have the opportunity to look at all the older ones and learn from their mistakes and not commit them. The summit is a common platform for student representatives of various new IITs to discuss and come up with innovative ways to grow further."

Spread across two-days, the summit saw sessions on various wings of student development being conducted such as academics, technical and sports where discussions were held about the present scenario in each new IIT and the ways to improve each sector of the college have been put forward through a collective discussion of all the delegates.

Student representatives of IIT Hyderabad, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Indore and IIT Mandi were present in the campus, while that of IIT Patna interacted through video conferencing. "The main aim in conducting this New IIT Gymkhana Summit is to create a common platform for all the new IITs to meet and discuss important issues pertaining to their institutions during the course of development since their inception," said Vineeth Dasaraju, general secretary of IIT Gandhinagar.
