KIIT School of Management is planning to introduce a one-year PG Diploma programme in Retail Management from the 2009-10 academic session.

The Bhubaneswar based B-school is already in talks with leading retail chains of India like Pantaloon Retail and Spencer's Retail owned by the Kolkata-based RPG Group for designing the course content.

"We intend to introduce a high quality and specialised programme in retail management which will be different from similar programmes offered by other B-schools. Our objective is to prepare our students enrolled in the retail management course for the managerial positions in the retail industry", LK Vaswani, director of KIIT School of Management told Business Standard.

Initially, the PG Diploma in Retail Management will have an intake of 30 seats.

KIIT School of Management is now focusing on resuming more sector specific management programmes and also on value addition of its regular MBA course.

“We are focusing on key areas like banking, insurance, retail, information technology, and entrepreneurship which can be offered as specialised electives in our regular MBA programme. The process of offering these specialised modules to add value to the MBA programme has already started in areas like banking and we expect to incorporate other modules soon”, Vaswan said.

One such module on corporate social responsibility is going to be added by the KIIT School of Rural Management in the rural management programme.

KIIT School of Rural Management is in talks with Tata Steel and other leading corporates for offering corporate social responsibility as a specialised elective in the rural management programme.

For the module on banking, KIIT School of Management has already entered into collaboration with HDFC bank for designing the course content.

The B-school has also an agreement with NIIT, according to which the regular MBA students will pursue one year of management in KIIT and the balance one year at NIIT where they will pursue a PG Diploma in Information Technology Management.

Among the sector specific management programmes, KIIT School of Management is presently offering a one-year PG Diploma course in Banking and Insurance Management.
