The Asian markets ended on a mixed note.

The Hang Seng dropped 58 points to 20,955.

The Nikkei shed 154 points (1.5%) to 9,979. The stock hit its lowest close in two months on Thursday, with shares of exporters hurt by a stronger yen, while uncertainty about the policies of the country's new government dampened investor confidence.

The Seoul Composite dropped 28 points (2%) to 1,644 and the Straits Times was down marginally at 2,660.

The Shanghai Composite and the Taiwan Weighted Index were up over 0.5% each at 2,780 and 7,545, respectively.
