HC on settling dispute through consent

Market regulator Sebi cannot be compelled to settle a dispute through consent mechanism, the Bombay High Court ruled in an order dated January 17. A bench comprising judges A A Sayed and D Y Chandrachud observed: “The guidelines (for consent orders) merely streamline the exercising of a power already vested with the regulator. But, Sebi cannot be compelled to settle a dispute.”
