Jeera prices rose sharply by 1.46 per cent to Rs 13,550 per quintal in futures market today as speculators built-up huge positions on the back of fresh overseas enquiries and a pick-up in spot demand.
However, rising supplies from the new crop and expectations of a rise in output restricted the upside.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in March rose by Rs 195, or 1.46 per cent, to Rs 13,550 per quintal with an open interest of 9,906 lots.
Likewise, the spice for delivery in April gained Rs 177.50, or 1.32 per cent, to Rs 13,610 per quintal, with an open interest of 8,109 lots.
