Managers in buy mode

At the end of the week, the Smart Portfolios benchmark BSE 200 index portfolio value saw an appreciation of 4.7 per cent at Rs 7.87 lakh

The markets began the week with a bang, but thereafter consolidated at higher levels before paring gains towards the close. The BSE 200 began the week with a gain of 5.7 per cent (76 points) at 1,415, thereafter touched a high of 1,440, and finally ended with a gain of 64 points at 1,403.

At the end of the week, the Smart Portfolios benchmark BSE 200 index portfolio value saw an appreciation of 4.7 per cent at Rs 7.87 lakh. The benchmark's net worth is, however, still down over 21 per cent from its inception on September 1, 2008.

Sadanand Shetty is now seeing positive returns. He now joins Amar Ambani as the fund manager in the green. While Ambani's net worth is up 3.8 per cent at Rs 10.38 lakh, Shetty's net worth has risen by 0.6 per cent to Rs 10.06 lakh. On the other hand, Kashyap Pujara's portfolio value has declined 2 per cent to Rs 9.80 lakh, and Anand Agarwal portfolio value is down over 6 per cent at Rs 9.38 lakh.

Trading activity too was on the higher side, with 31 trades - of which 22 were on the buy side. Cumulatively, the four fund managers bought shares worth Rs 3.86 lakh.

ANAND AGARWAL
Fund Manager, Reliance Money

Anand Agarwal was the most active manager with 14 trades and also the biggest buyer with net purchases of Rs 1.73 lakh. Of the 14 trades he executed, 10 were on the buy side.

He sold stocks such as SBI, Larsen & Toubro, BPCL and Indian Oil. He has added JSW Steel, Genus Power Infra, Ranbaxy and Siemens to his portfolio. Agarwal's net worth rose 2 per cent last week to Rs 9.39 lakh from Rs 9.21 lakh. He now holds Rs 6.58 lakh in cash.

TURNAROUND TIME

SADANAND SHETTY

Sadanand Shetty's portfolio is no more in the red. His net worth appreciated by 2.5 per cent to Rs 10.06 lakh from Rs 9.81 lakh. Last week, he executed seven trades, of which four were on the buy side and has now included Bank of India in his portfolio. Shetty was a net buyer of stocks worth Rs 45,251.

He also sold some stocks, gaining around 21 per cent and 25 per cent in Shriram Transport and Ess Dee Aluminium. Of the 10 stocks that he holds, only Oracle Financial, down 0.7 per cent, is in the red, while Reliance Industries is up over 62 per cent from his cost price. He continues to hold cash worth Rs 6.50 lakh.

INCHING CLOSER

KASHYAP PUJARA

Kashyap Pujara has now inched closer to positive territory backed by a 3 per cent gain last week. His net worth rose from Rs 9.50 lakh to Rs 9.80 lakh. Last week, he executed seven trades of which five were on the buy side; he was a net buyer of stocks worth Rs 82,194.
