Indian equity, forex, money and commodity markets will remain closed today on account of Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashmi.

On Wednesday, benchmark indices ended flat with a negative bias tracking slump in the Chinese markets.

The 30-share Sensex closed 19 points down at 27,288 and the 50-share Nifty ended down 10 points at 8,252.

In the broader market, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were down 0.1-0.4% each. Market breadth was weak with 1,378 losers and 1,328 gainers on the BSE.

MARKET OUTLOOK

"After a flat note opening, Nifty made a high of 8294, but can’t make more high as of selling. The fall in the Chinese markets along the weak data in Japanese front made the markets to slip. Also the investors were seen closing their long positions ahead of the holiday was seen. The Indian markets may remain close tomorrow on the back of Dussehra holiday." said Mr. Alex Mathews, Head - Research, Geojit BNP Paribas Financial Services.

RUPEE

On Wednesday, the Indian rupee ended at 65.12 against the US dollar on dollar demand from importers while weakness in domestic equities also dampened sentiment.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Asian stocks lost steam on Thursday and are trading lower as the decline in Wall Street overnight and fall in the commodity prices dampened the sentiment.

Japan’s Nikkei was trading flat with a negative bias at 0.1% while Kospi is down 0.6%. HangSeng has taken a beating of 0.9% while Shanghai Composite seemed to be recovering from the losses and are trading at 0.4% gains.

European stocks finished higher on Wednesday while Wall Street edged lower on account of mixed bag of earnings.
