Markets end near day highs led by banks

Short covering was seen in bank shares after the recent fall following the Cobrapost report

 

After a range bound session for most part of the day stocks surged in late trades, amid firm global cues, to end near their day highs led by gains in ITC and short covering in bank shares.

The 30-share Sensex ended up 208 points at  19,881 after touching a high of 19,918 and the 50-share Nifty ended up 70 points at 6,041 after hitting an intra-day high of 6,050.
