Markets extend gains

Markets have extended gains. Sensex has touched a high of 16,464. It is now up 233 points at 16,459.

The Nifty is up 70 points at 4,926.

All indices are in green. The BSE metal index has surged 3% to 16,381. The consumer durables, realty and capital goods indices follow.

Tata Steel has rallied 4.3% to Rs 574. Hindalco has surged 4.2% to Rs 151. Sterlite has jumped 3.2% to Rs 786.

Larsen & Toubro and Jaiprakash Associates have added 2% each to Rs 139 and Rs 1,268, respectively.

Tata Power and Bharti Airtel have advanced 2% each. Mahindra & Mahindra has gained 2% at Rs 1,035.

DLF, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors and Hindustan Unilever are up over 1% each. Other gainers include HDFC Bank, HDFC and Grasim, among others.

The BSE market breadth is positive. Out of 2,360 stocks traded, 1,749 have advanced while 540 have declined.
