Markets off day's low

Markets continue to trade in the negative zone, albiet of the day's low. The Sensex is now down 155 points at 20,184 and Nifty is at 6084, down 51 points.

Meanwhile, the European markets have also opened in the red, the french CAC is down 44 points at 3725 and FTSE is down 40 points at 5632.

The broader markets are also trading lower, The Mid-cap index has shed 60 points at 8336 and Small-cap index is down 30 points at 10,619. The BSE 500 market breadth is extremely negative as 381 stocks are declining and 114 stocks are advancing.

Hindalco Industries is the top loser on the Sensex down more than 2.5% at Rs 209, followed by HDFC, L&T, Jindal steel and BHEL

Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahiondra is the top gainer among the Sensex stocks, up 1.68% at Rs 718, followed by Tata Motors, Hero Honda and TCS up 0.45% each.

CMC which was the top gainer yesterday is the top loser among the Mid-caps today, the stock has shed 6% at Rs 2224, followed by J M Financial, Info Edge Media, Binani Cement and India Infoline down more than 3.5% each.


GMR Industries leads the Small-cap losers charts, down nearly 6% at Rs 145, follwed by Maharashtra Polybutenes, Prabhav Industries and PNB Glits down more than 4% each.

Among the sectoral indices Capital Goods index is the top loser down 274 points at 15,978, followed by Metal, Realty, FMCG and onsumer Durables indices down more than 1.2% each. However, IT, Auto and Tech indices are trading higher.


Among the capital goods stocks Praj Industries is the top loser followed by ABB, L&T, Bharat Electrical Company and Jyoti Structures.

The market breadth continues to be negative as 1789 stocks are declining and 1050 stocks are advancing.
