Markets remain stable

The markets have held on to their gains in the first hour of trade. The Sensex is at 18,115, up 65 points and the Nifty is up 18 points at 5,436. The midcap and the smallcap index are up 0.6% each and continue to outperform the benchmark index (up 0.3%).

All the sectoral indices on the BSE are in the green. Bankex, up 1%, leads the charts, followed by realty and consumer durables, while Health Care and IT have gained the least. Bank of Baroda, up 5% at Rs 828 and IDBI Bank, up 2.5%, are the movers in the Bankex space.

The gainers in the Sensex-30 stocks are Jindal Steel,     HDFC and ACC up 1% each. The other gainers are Hindalco Industries, Hero Honda anda SBI.

On the losers list are Sterlite Industries down nearly 2%  at Rs 157 for the second consecutive day followed by NTPC, ONGC and Hindustan Unilever.

The market breadth is very positive with 1589 stock advances and 843 declines.
